To reach over 220,000 users worldwide, the USAF Air University (AU) set a requirement to modernize, create world-wide ubiquity, and cloud-enable their integrated Student Information System and Learning Management System. SMX developed a next- generation Commercial Cloud Services (Dev, Test, and Production) capability in a Microsoft Azure IL4 Virtual Data Center, ensuring compliance with the Department of Defense’s strict security requirements.
Our team provides a fully-managed commercial cloud environment via an Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) model. The solution includes a fully-hosted Cloud Access Point (CAP) via DISA and a CAC-enabled IdAM solution that supports authentication for application and privileged user OS access. The SMX team also produced all required documentation to support accreditation through FedRAMP RMF (IL-2) and DoD RMF (IL-4).
Throughout the process, SMX assisted Air Education and Training Command (AETC) leadership in migrating multiple on-premises applications into this environment. We also provided guidance and direction for leveraging cloud serverless compute solutions to increase cost savings across the environment. This includes Azure database services, storage services, application gateways, VPN, and integration with Microsoft 365 for SMTP delivery.
