Peter B. LaMontagne is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at SMX, responsible for the company’s strategic direction and accountable for the performance of the business. He ensures SMX teams have the resources they need to help clients – government and commercial – achieve mission success through digital transformation. He has focused his career on the nexus of three critical subjects: national security challenges, technology solutions, and business imperatives, applying his expertise in cloud, data analytics, and cyber.
Peter is also an accomplished private equity (PE) CEO, having successfully led three high-growth technology solutions platforms, expertly navigating each company through the full PE-sponsored lifecycle to high-return exits. He has been part of more than 20 M&A transactions, creating new value and capabilities for clients seeking innovation and agility. Peter’s previous positions included President and CEO at Quantum Spatial, Growth Advisor at M33 Growth, CEO at Novetta, and President and CEO at Paradigm Solutions Corporation.
Peter helps businesses thrive by serving in board and advisory roles, currently including ManTech International (NASDAQ: MANT), a publicly traded ~$3 billion public sector/national security systems integrator, and Tangram, a small business embedded systems software company supporting DoD programs.
Before his business career, Peter served as a U.S. Foreign Service Officer, specializing in China and East Asia political and economic affairs with a posting at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, China. Peter is a Mandarin linguist, and graduated magna cum laude from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. There he majored in Government/Legal Studies and Classics, completing his Honors Thesis on Terrorism Studies.
Committed to his roots in Maine, Peter is active in the greater Portland community. He serves on the Board of Trustees of Cheverus High School, a Jesuit college preparatory school. He is also active in supporting the year-round community on Long Island as a member of the town’s finance committee. Peter and his wife of 30 years have raised five children on Long Island, which seceded from Portland as an independent town in 1993.
