After more than 8 years with SMX, the biggest thing that kept me engaged is, if you come up with an idea, there’s always someone willing to listen. I’ve never had anyone shoot an idea down. I sometimes forget that not everyone at other companies has that. You don’t get siloed here. We give people opportunity and they have the ability to take the initiative and run with it.
We have a startup-type mentality, but with a bigger company supporting us. The way that people approach things, the way that we look at our customers, and the way that people are able to just reach out and talk to each other — it’s super important for me. Attracted by SMX’s mission, collaborative culture, and focus on client impact, I quickly recognized it as a place where people genuinely enjoy working together and supporting one another. The opportunity to grow within the Financial Analyst role and work toward increasingly senior responsibilities aligned strongly with my long-term career goals, making the decision to join an easy one. Since joining SMX in October 2017 as a Junior Financial Analyst, I’ve progressed into Mid Financial Analyst and later into an LOE Lead / Senior Financial Analyst role, while also completing both my associate and bachelor’s degrees along the way.
My onboarding experience during the first 30–90 days set me up for a successful ramp. I focused on learning the tools and processes, building strong relationships across the team, and completing training and shadowing opportunities that helped me quickly take ownership of my work.
The culture at SMX is supportive, growth-oriented, and family-like. From day one, I felt welcomed and encouraged to ask questions, learn new skills, and continue growing professionally while collaborating with teammates across the organization. Joining cBEYONData + SMX felt like a natural decision after working alongside the team for nearly two years on the Army EBS-C contract. I was looking to get with a company that is up-and-coming and had an opening for a compliance program. SMX did not have one, so I looked at that as an opportunity to come in and start up a robust compliance program from the ground up. And that’s exactly what I did.
SMX has that small company feel, but we obviously work as a large company. Our CEO stresses a team of teams approach; we are multiple teams working to accomplish the same common goal. When you have a team of teams approach, it makes everything more streamlined, without having all of the potential headwinds that some companies have internally.

Over the past four years, I’ve grown significantly, taking on a larger role in trade shows and events, now coordinating logistics for more than two dozen conferences annually.
